What to do in Sointula and on Malcolm Island

Hiking ~ There are a number of trails throughout the island for every level. Maps are available.

Biking ~ It's a great place to explore- few hills and very scenic! Bring your bikes or rent.

Whale Watching ~ During the summer months near Bere Point, Orcas come to "rub" on the gravel bottom of the bay. If you are lucky you may experience thrilling views of these magnificent mammals. Charter vessels in the region can take you out for day trips to view Orcas, Humpbacks and other coastal wildlife.

Fishing ~ Fish for salmon, halibut, lingcod, crab and prawns in the area. Charters are available. Licences are mandatory and restrictions may apply for some species.

Kayaking ~ Experienced kayakers find Malcolm Island's shoreline, points and bays fabulous to explore. Beginners should contact one of the commercial guiding companies in the region.

Sointula Museum ~ We have a wonderful museum containing many artifacts and displays from our fascinating history as a Finnish communal settlement and an innovative and successful fishing village.

Birdwatching ~ Malcolm Island is a great place to see many species of coastal and woodland birds. Bring your field glasses and camera!

Beachcombing ~ You can spend hours walking on our beaches looking for shells, our famous multi-coloured round stones and other treasures brought up from the clean waters of the Queen Charlotte Strait and Broughton passage.

OR ~ You can just relax and soak up the grand view.
